About the College Society
Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College Society, duly registered under Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860, was established in 1973 at Chandigarh, with an aim to start and maintain a first rate college in Chandigarh, imparting technical, industrial, professional and vocational instructions in arts, science ,commerce and other faculties.Late Pt. Mohan LalJi, former Home, Finance and Education Minister of Punjab was the founder President of the college Managing Committee. Inspired by MahamannaMadan Mohan Malviyaji and at the behest of Goswami Ganesh DuttjiMaharaj, Pt.jishouldered the responsibility of starting educational institutions in Chandigarh and Punjab. G.G.D.S.D College was started in 1973 in a small bungalow in sector 8 Chandigarh with very small resources . The founder Principal of the college, Prof. RoshanLal Verma and his wife MrsKaushlya Devi Verma, donated their entire life’s savings to raise this institution.
Today G.G.D.S.D College Society runs six leading educational institutions namely G.G.D.S.D.College sector 32 Chandigarh, Pt. Mohan Lal S.D. Public School, Chandigarh, G.G.D.S.D.CollegeKheriGurna, Punjab, Pt. Mohan Lal S.D. College for Women Gurdaspur, Punjab and Pt. Mohan Lal S.D. College for Girls ,FatehgarhChurian, Punjab and Pt. Mohan Lal Global School FatehgarhChurian under the able guidance of a well constituted managing committee comprising eminent educationists, Industrialists and administrators.
The managing society and all its institutions strictly follow the motto 'Firm in Faith and Broad in Mind'and are constantly making efforts to promote education that meets the changing paradigms, with its roots deeply embedded in strong sanatanist values. The aim is to produce students who are academically brilliant, culturally vibrant and spiritually sensitive with a clear vision and individual perspective.Goswami Ganesh Dutta SD College was started in 1973 with mere 46 students, accommodated in two rented buildings. The noble vision and undeterred commitment of the members of the managing committee put this institution at the acme of glory and fame. The college is fortunate in having an experienced and enlightened management with a vision to evolve with times and introduce pro-active steps towards growth and development. Late Pandit Mohan LalJi, Founder President of our college Managing Committee has been the force behind the institution's big leap towards constant progress. He dedicated his entire life to the cause of education and social reforms. After the sad demise of Pt. Mohan LalJi in 1999, his illustrious son, Sh. UpkarKrishan Sharma (formerly Vice President of Eveready Industries India Ltd.) shouldered the responsibilities of running these institutions under his dynamic leadership. The college Managing Society has in place, a congenial 'policy frame-work' regarding the administration of all the institutions. These policies are dynamic, yet sensitized towards the needs of the society as well as the growth of the institutions. All through, the major emphasis has been on transparency, access and equal opportunity for all the stakeholders of the institution i.e. the management, the faculty, the administrative staff and above all the students and the society. TheCollege now boasts of above 6000 students, state-of-the-art infrastructure, top university results and excellent placements and international tie-ups. This college has been awarded A Grade by NAAC and is also conferred with the status of 'A College with Potential for Excellence' by U.G.C.
Revered Pandit Ji had firm belief that only education, particularly education of women, can bring a positive change and uplift in society. To redeem his commitment to the cause of women education, Pt. ji started another college in Gurdaspur (Pb.)— Pt. Mohan Lal College for Women in 1995. Today this college boasts of 1500 girl students, specifically from rural and border area of Panjab, and is considered one of the premium institutions for women affiliated to Guru Nanak Dev University. The college has been accredited with A Grade by NAAC in 2016.
As a tribute to Panditji's vision and on the demand of the residents of FatehgarhChurian,( the birthplace of Pt. ji), the Managing Society started another college to facilitate quality education for the girls of rural and backward areas of Punjab . The Pt. Mohan Lal College for Girls in FatehgarhChurian is being totally financed by the college Managing Society and is picking up fast ,catering to the needs of the girl students . The NAAC peer team recently visited the college on 25th and 26th October and awarded B grade to the college.
The management took another impressive stride in 2013 when it started a new college in KheriGurna, near Rajpura Punjab, to realize its vision of quality education that meets the global standards. This initiative of starting 'A College with a Difference' has proved to be a landmark in the realm of Commerce and Management studies.The innovative teaching pedagogy, compulsory industry interface, intensive training programs and ultramodern research facilities at GGDSD College, KheriGurna speak of the management's vision to help students acquire practical knowledge, skills and discernment ,required for ready employment .Our vision is to pour our collective energy to deliver an exceptional educational experience beyond the confines of academic curriculum.
The management is making constant efforts to realize Pt. Mohan Lalji's dream to bring a big change in society through education. That is why in 2014, the Managing Society thought of starting Pt. Mohan Lal Global school in FatehgarhChurian(Pb),with a view to provide best primary education to the children of this area and help them grow into secure , confident and responsible human beings.
The Managing Committee is driven by the core values of commitment, trustworthiness, innovation and concern for society and environment. It is alive to ‘the Employee Responsibility' and 'Social Responsibility' and is very successfully running Smt. Kaushalya Devi Charitable Institute in GoswamiGaneshDutta S. D College where women from weaker sections of society are provided with free of cost training in stitching, beauty culture and computers . The management has also introduced many Staff Welfare Schemes and provides financial assistance in the form of liberal scholarships to the needy and meritorious students. The College Society has also adopted B.R. Ambedkar School in NayaGaon (Pb.) to promote education amongst children of poor and backward classes.
The dynamic and pro-active management believes in the adage, "We either find a way ,or make one" and this firm faith has always been the guiding star during its unending journey since 1973.
